Get Kids Reading and Learning more about money this Summer!
Did you know how to budget, invest, or save before you turned 18? Certified Financial Education Instructor and Youth Finance Advocate Jasmine Paul is on a mission to facilitate healthy money conversations among young people. She’s launching The Wealth Playground’s Summer Reading Challenge to encourage kids to read and learn more about money.
Here’s why?
“54% of U.S. adults read below the equivalent of a sixth-grade level, and 64% of our country’s fourth graders do not read proficiently.” Source: Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC). Jasmine used to crush library reading challenges as a kid and thought it was important to create a reading challenge designed to empower youth in literacy and financial literacy.
The Wealth Playground’s Summer Reading Challenge is an opportunity for kids and families to read more, dream more, and be more. With a curated list of over 26 books covering topics like stocks, investing, budgeting, and engaging money stories, young readers are invited to participate. Starting June 16, 2026, youth in grades K-12 can register at thewealthplayground.com/summer, select books from the list, read, and submit short summaries or reflections online. Books include Jasmine Paul’s A Sweet Market Crash, Deena Shakir’s Leena Mo, CEO, Readers will be entered for a chance to win prizes based on the number of books read and the number of completed entries. The challenge aims to promote both literacy and financial wellness knowledge. The challenges ends Aug 8, 2026.
